This important Mexican cultural and traditional holiday is observed every year, from October 31st to November 2nd.
Following the belief that the departed return for a visit, families will construct an altar filled with memories of the departed, and featuring favorite foods and drink for them to enjoy.
This year (2006) on November 1st, elementary school students built and displayed traditional altars in the plaza, and high school students constructed traditional altars (some of which featured traditional Yaqui and Papago artifacts and traditions) in the Plaza del Arte, across the street from Pueblo Viejo.
Then, on November 2nd, hundreds went to the Panteon (cemetery) to decorate and tend to the graves of loved ones.
